Meadowlark
Park participates in the Calgary Block Watch program
Block Watch operates on the premise that the police cannot be everywhere
all the time, as a result they are unable to effectively investigate,
reduce, and prevent crime by themselves.
Therefore, in order to keep the community safe, the police require the
assistance of all citizens in identifying and reporting suspicious or
criminal activities.
Block Watch is successful in preventing and reducing crime when people
get involved and stay involved. Each community is responsible for
establishing a Block Watch Association that is responsible for
implementing, coordinating, and managing the effectiveness of the Block
Watch Program.
Block Watch can succeed only if it is well organized and supported by a
majority of community members. The more people involved the more
effective the Program will be.
Education, information, increased awareness, citizen involvement and
action are the key components for ensuring a safe, crime-free community.

New Name, New Slogan and New Logo
We wish to announce that, effective, January 28, 2009, our name has been legally changed to the
Calgary Community Block Watch Council. Block Watch Presidents/Coordinators ratified the name change at a Special General Meeting held in January of this year. The reason for the name change was that by adding the word “
Community” the new name more accurately reflects how Block Watch operates today; “Building Community One Block at a Time”.We have also changed our logo. The logo represents the “community” and the “outstretched arms” represents the protection and inclusion that a Community Block Watch Program provides.
Plaudits go to Dave Fulton, President, South Calgary Community Block Watch, for his apt description of our new name; “Building Community One Block at a Time”. Plaudits also go to Cathy Smith, volunteer, who conceptualized the meaning of our new name. Calgary Community Block Watch thanks both Dave and Cathy for their creativity with our new branding.
Here's the procedure:
If you see a crime in progress, dial 9-1-1 and report it immediately to the police. After that, contact your Block Watch captain to advise of the situation.
If you see suspicious behaviour in the neighbourhood, first contact the police at 266-1234, then contact your Block Watch captain to let them know.
To find out who your Block Watch captain is, contact Jennifer Smith by clicking here.
